What is Lil’ Learners Club?
Lil’ Learners Club is a series of drop-in, engaging, hands-on social and academic learning opportunities for children ages 3 – 5. Through high-energy body movement and dynamic learner-focused special interest classes, young learners will experience rich learning opportunities that help develop skills through imagination, creativity, and curiosity.

French Preschool
French preschool is an introduction to French for young learners and will focus on vocabulary and basic French conversation. No previous knowledge is required.

Letter of the Week
Each “Letter of the Week” class will focus on one letter of the alphabet. Learners will be encouraged to practice saying and recognizing the letter and it’s sound.

Daily Circle Time
In Daily Circle Time, we greet our classmates with a Welcome Song, then we learn about the days of the week, months of the year, the seasons, and the weather.

Let's Move!
Let’s Move will encourage young learners to become more aware of their bodies through movement stories and breathing activities.

Playdough Fun!
Playdough helps young children develop fine muscle control in their hands in a way that stimulates the imagination and calms the senses. All you need is a few common household ingredients (flour, salt, water, oil, lemon juice and food colouring) and you’re ready to play!

Let's draw!
Let’s Draw! is an opportunity for young children to flex their creative muscles and practice drawing.

Show and TelL

Number of the week
Each class will focus on a number. Learners will be encouraged to count, trace and write the number. Classes will include basic math concepts such as addition and subtraction.

All Things Unicorns
Unicorns are a fun way for us to engage young learners in a conversation about individuality and uniqueness through imagination and whimsy.

Mindfulness
Life is can be overwhelming, busy and stressful at any age, even for our littles! Mindfulness can help us focus, find calm and learn ways to cope with stress. Introducing learners to mindfulness at an early age better equips them for the years ahead. This mindfulness class will introduce the concepts of mindfulness to young learners in simple but practical hands-on ways.
Remembrance Day - Paper Poppies
Many of us have family members to honour each Remembrance Day. Join us for this craft to honour those we are thankful for and for those we remember.
Supplies needed:
- Construction Paper (red, green, black and any colour for a background sheet)
- Glue

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY FUN
In this class, learners will deepen their knowledge of Christmas traditions and vocabulary. We will celebrate this festival by making Christmas cards and learning and singing Christmas songs.
Science Corner - Make it Rain
In this hands-on weather focused science class, learners will use basic materials to demonstrate what happens when clouds become too heavy with water droplets, and rain falls from the sky.
Supplies:
- Clear plastic cup or another clear suitable container
- Shaving Cream or Whipping Cream
- Blue Food Colouring
- Water
Science Corner - Dancing Rice
A great chemistry experiment for young learners. Chemistry experiments explore the way different materials react together, and how they act under different conditions.
Supplies:
White vinegar
Baking soda
Rice
Clear jar
Water
Food colouring (optional)
Science Corner - Rainbow Milk
Rainbow milk is a fun and engaging way to see chemistry in action! This fun experiment provides an excellent visual for observing chemical reactions.
Supplies needed:
- Plate or shallow dish
- 1/2 cup (approximate) Whole Milk (need high-fat milk for the experiment to work)
- Food colouring
- Dishwashing soap
- Toothpicks or Q-tips (optional)
Science Corner - Sink or Float?
Water play is an early learning favourite! In this fun, physics-based science class little learners will make predictions and observations about buoyancy and density.
Supplies needed
- Container of water (plastic tub, basin, pot, bucket, or kitchen sink)
- Waterproof toys and household items of different sizes, shapes, and densities (ex. spoon, pipe cleaner, plastic balls, small rocks, sponges, popsicle sticks etc)
- Towels for quick clean-up.
Science Corner - Oobleck
Is it a solid or a liquid? This fun substance is both! Known as a “non-Newtonian fluid” Oobleck doesn’t respond to outside forces the way you’d expect. Oobleck is a fun and engaging way to see physics in action!
Supplies needed:
- Medium size mixing bowl
- 1.5 – 2 cups cornstarch
- 1 cup water
- Food colouring (optional)
Science Corner - Rubber Band Guitar
In this fun, physics-based science class learners explore sound while creating their own musical instrument.
Supplies needed:
- 1 long tissue box or another similar-sized box with a hole cut in the top center
- rubber bands of varying width
- 2 pencils or 2 coloured pencils or 2 crayons
Science Corner - Salt & Pepper
Salt & Pepper is a fun and engaging way to see electricity in action! This fun experiment provides an excellent visual for observing static electricity.
Supplies needed:
- Salt
- Pepper
- balloon or plastic spoon (or both)
Science Corner - Quiet vs Loud
What is sound? In this fun, physics-based science class learners explore sound
Supplies needed:
- 1 plastic jar or container with a screw-on lid or tightly fitting snap-on lid
- A variety of items to fill the jar with (cotton balls, rice, buttons, small lego pieces, paper clips, popped and unpopped popcorn)
- A cloth that fits all the way around the jar

Science Corner - Beautiful Bubbles
There’s something about bubbles that we just can’t get enough of! Bubbles… so simple, a pocket of air enclosed in a thin film of soapy water, yet so fascinating and exciting! Bubbles introduce learners to concepts of solutions, gas, air, pressure, elasticity, soap films, liquids, and surface tension but honestly, we love the so much because they’re fun and messy!
Supplies needed:
- Medium size pan or bucket for bubble solution
- 1/2 cup Dishwashing soap
- 2 cups water
- 2 TSP sugar
- Variety of supplies as bubble wands – a piece of wire or pipe cleaner bent into a hoop, a small plastic bottle with the end cut off, an old sock etc.

St. Patrick's Day - Shamrock Art
Bring out your green! St. Patrick’s Day—observed every March 17—is packed with parades, good luck charms, and all things green. The event started as a religious holiday, but over time it’s become a celebration of Irish culture.
Supplies needed:
- Shamrock template
- Green tissue or construction paper (can use a variety of shades or choose just one) need approx 1 sheet
- Glue
- Scissors

I Can Write My Name
Learners will be encouraged to write or trace the letters in their name. Families can choose to use any materials they wish for this class.
If learners are not yet familiar with letters and proper letter formation families are encouraged to download and print their child’s name placemat from the NLA family resource folder.

Imagine Explorers
Imagine Explorers is a dynamic oral storytelling class where learners actively participate in story creation.
With a base storyline, educators will set the stage for the adventure, and along the way, learners will add to the account with their input.
This class will have lots of body movement as learners act out the story as it’s being told.

Mother's Day Craft
The love of a family is a beautiful thing! In this class, learners will have the opportunity to make a craft just for mom or those they love just like a mom.
Supplies needed:
- Mother’s Day Craft printout (from NLA parent resources)
- Washable tempera paint
- Pencil, coloured pencils, crayons, or markers
The craft printout can be printed on paper or, if available in your area, on canvas.

Parent's Day Craft
The love of a family is a beautiful thing! In this class, learners will have the opportunity to make a craft just for their parents or those they love just like a parent.

Father's Day Craft

Shapes & Colours
This class will use simple crafts to learn about shapes and colours. We will have fun discussing the shape and colour of the week and exploring items in the world around us that are like that shape or colour.
This class is an excellent class for an introduction to shapes and a fun twist for learners who are already well-established in their shape recognition. This class is very relaxed, and students are encouraged to use their creativity to create their works of art.
Builders' Club
Bring your lego, Duplo, wooden blocks, magnet blocks etc. Build what you like and then share with the group! Share your building strategies and get ideas for new builds.

Finger Print Spiders
More than just Halloween fun, learning about spiders is interesting and exciting!
Spiders play an essential role in our ecosystem as predators of other insects. Building their webs to catch other insects, they help prevent other bugs, such as mosquitos, from entering our homes! They also help farmers by snaring insects that may damage their crops.
Fingerprint spiders are a fun, easy going craft that is also super cute!
Supplies needed:
- Paper
- paint (any colour) or ink pad
- thin paint brushes (for paint)
- markers
- googly eyes (optional)
- glue (if using googly eyes)
Jr. Palaeontologists: Dinosaur Club
Calling all dinosaur lovers!
If your learner loves watching dino-themed TV shows, pouring over dinosaur books, playing with dinosaur toys, and can stomp and roar like a dinosaur (or is willing to try), this is the club for them!
Each week, learners will be introduced to a new dinosaur. They will then practice scientific observation skills by examining an illustration of that dinosaur together, studying its unique attributes. Once learners have had the chance to share their observations, students will log the dinosaur of the week into their field guide by drawing it, then colouring and labelling it. Weekly printed fact sheets will be provided, which students may also cut out and add to their journals.

Nature Club
The perfect class for nature lovers, adventurers, and explorers! Does your young learner enjoy playing in the woods and climbing trees? Are they always finding interesting rocks, making things out of sticks, or finding treasures to bring home? Then this class is for them. Learners are invited to bring what they have found in the great outdoors to class so they can tell us all about it!
Penguin Art
In this fun discovery class about Penguins, learners will learn a few interesting facts about penguins and create this super cute art piece!
Supplies needed:
1 sheet each of Black, Orange and White (or Cream or Beige) construction paper

Ocean in a Bottle - Discovery Jar
This classic preschool science project is usually always a huge hit! With only a few simple supplies, kids can dive deep into learning about density, mixtures, emulsification, and more. However, the benefits don’t stop there; this fun science project also doubles as a sensory bottle!

Busy Bees!
In this class, children will learn about bees and the importance of these powerful little pollinators!
Did you know?
- bees see all colours except red?
- there are more than 20,000 species of bees.
- the difference between a queen bee and a worker bee?
- that there are several jobs for worker bees, including cleaning, nursing, and controlling the temperature of the hive!
In this class, we will learn all about these fascinating creatures while colouring some BEEutiful pictures.

Let's Paint
Let’s paint together using our fingers, brushes or sponges. This class will focus on the process of painting using various paint mediums and tools. This type of painting is great to do on a large roll of paper, which could be used as wrapping paper once it’s
dry.
Supplies:

- roll of paper or large pieces of paper,
paint brushes and or sponge brushes.

Crafting Table - Upcycle Crafting
Collect your recyclables from around the house and let’s craft! This open ended crafting class is all about individual creativity and imagination using recycled materials.
Supplies Needed:
Any safe to use recylable materials (could include TP or paper towel rolls, old scraps of cloth or paper, plastic containers of various size and shape)

There are no set supplies for this class but rather it provides learners the opportunity to let their imagination run free, using materials readily available to them.

Gardening Time
Gardening is an excellent activity for the whole family with a wide range of benefits for all ages. Whether you choose to have a vegetable garden or a flower garden, this class explores all the stages of garden care. Planting, watering, tending and harvesting or purely enjoying!
All About Chickens
This class is about all things chickens! In this class, we will cover the basics of chicken anatomy, life cycle, and care.

Fuzzy Baby Chick Art
In this fun and unusual painting class, learners will use forks, not paintbrushes, to create their fuzzy baby chick masterpieces!
Supplies needed:
- Plain white paper
- Yellow acrylic paint
- Glue
- Googly eyes
- Orange construction paper or felt.
- Black marker

Future Meteorologists
The study of weather can be quite fascinating! In this class, we will cover the basics of weather and seasons. Some of the topics covered will be daily weather, related terminology, and seasons.

Clouds
What are clouds made of? What do they feel like? Why do they float? And why are they different colours? This class will help to answer questions about clouds while completing a hands-on cloud activity.
